Sunglasses vs. Regular Glasses: UV Protection, Tint, and Polarization Explained

Most people assume the dark tint of sunglasses is what shields their eyes from the sun's ultraviolet rays.  It's an easy assumption to make, but it's wrong — and the misunderstanding can actually put your eyes at  risk. The truth is that a clear pair of regular glasses can block just as much UV as a good pair of  sunglasses, and sometimes more. To see why, it helps to separate three different things a lens can do: block   UV, dim visible light, and cut glare.
